About the Model :

This model is described as “A Modern Inertially Detatched Gravity Escapement Clock”. Built from available modelplan No. 104,an original Meccano design from Dr. Michael Adler, who designed the clock with inspiration from the 1987 invention conceived by J.Arnfield.

My model is based closely to this modelplan, with only minor cosmetic differences and slight re-working of the pendulum. This accurate timepiece is powered by a gravity pulled weight (on the right of the clock) which in turn provides drive to the gear trains which turn both the clock hands and the escapement wheel.

The Pendulum acts upon an impulse arm which swings upward, releasing a prop arm which sets the stroke of the impulse arm. This impulse arm then drops under a counterweight lever at the top of the clock swinging back and hitting a neutral arm.

This collision lifts the neutral arm and releases the escapement wheel to turn 1/6th of a turn. The neutral arm then drops back under balance of a second counterweighted lever, locking the escapement until the next push from the impulse arm.The movement of the impulse arm also keeps the pendulum swing regular overcoming any frictions which may slow the pendulum swing down. This cycle takes exactly 1 second once the timing has been accurately adjusted.

When the weight has fallen to a minimum height,an electrical contact is closed to set an automatic rewind mechanism, which resets when the weight has fully lifted by a second electrical contact triggered by a small counterweight (on the left of the clock). The weight chain is endless, and provides a constant source of power, even during rewind, for accurate, constant energy which keeps all movement precise.
