About the Model :

This model was inspired by the Mike Cotterill model in the NMMG constructor project series. A simple model, the engine has an “A” frame which supports a beam which transmits motion drom the cylinder at one end of the engine to the crank at the other side. Parallel linkage is fitted between the piston connecting rod and the beam. A simple oscillating connecting rod then pushes the large throw crank.

The crankshaft is supported by minature roller bearings and has a large flywheel one side and a pulley to drive equipment the other. A post mounted governor is located between the frame and the crankshaft to limit the speed.
The cylinder has two control valves each side which are fed with dummy steam pipes with valves.

The boiler has a opening firebox door and dummy pressure gauge, safety valve and whistle. Steps lead up to the boiler to add realism.

The model is powered by a 12 volt motor with gearhead  reduction hidden in the base. This simple model was easy to construct and took about 15 hours with minimal re-working. It is one of my favourite models that I have built to date.
