About the Model:

Meccano Traction Engine
By Roger Thorpe

This model is largely based on the SM22 leaflet.

There are differences between the SM22 plan and my model:

I didn't have an E6 motor when I built the model so I used a modern can motor and assembled it up under sideplates to look like the original. I now have a motor of the correct pattern and I may substitute this when it has been refurbished.

I have built the cylinder and valve block slightly different and it still isn't quite correct for reliable operation. The dynamo mounting and chimney are slightly different to the leaflet.

The roof on my model is made from flexible plates which were not available when the leaflet model was designed.

I have incorporated a differential into my model (between the right hand driving wheel and the sideframe). The differential was built from an article on the website of Alan Esplen, it is a design incorporated into the model by Jacques Vuye based on work by Bert Love.
