Triumph Herald Chassis-- Built by Roland Jaggard

Motor

The basic Herald Chassis model was now finished. Given the lack of space for a motor, would it be on to operate the rear wheels and the engine fan ? The small Meccano motors were not up to the job without fitting a "huge" gearbox. After some experimentation I fitted a 12v model railway Portescap motor and gearbox 34.46:1 ratio. See pic. Only the drive to the fan remained. Eventually I used a screwed rod driven from the motor shaft with a 1/2" pulley. Thus the fan runs faster than the prop-shaft, as it should.
